Designed specifically to embrace the continual technological changes being thrown at pharmacy, MPS builds on 20 years experience of pharmacy software design. It co-joins all the previous requirements that pharmacists have come to expect from a dispensary system with all the new ‘high-tech’ needs driven by professional requirements, regulations and responsibilities.

Initiatives such as electronic prescription payment claims, medicine management provision, web based reporting, ease of touch screen use are all examples of how MPS provides what previous generations of dispensary software could not.

Electronic Claims
Having worked in conjunction with the GMS (General Medical Services – Dept. of Health) in Southern Ireland since 2002, the development of MPS is unique in providing pharmacists with their exact payment information prior to dispensing. This is achieved by applying all the GMS payment regulations and business rules for all the relevant active schemes at the point of dispensing.

With XML transmission direct to the GMS’s payment computers, MPS accurately submits priced prescription claims, guaranteeing the pharmacist their known remuneration within 7 days. Queries are dealt with electronically with a response mechanism that allows easy resubmission by the pharmacist.
Having developed and successfully deployed such innovation in pharmacy, McLernons are currently involved in several similar initiatives throughout various national, international and regional jurisdictions.

System Functionality
Taking advantage of the latest technologies, MPS provides innovative use of touch screen functionality. The ease and instant familiarity of such features allows prescriptions to be dispensed quickly and accurately, with virtually no typing (it can actually be done without a keyboard – but that’s carrying things a bit far!).

Further to this, dual screens can be added to each terminal. This provides a huge array of possibilities for the user to clarify the way information is presented to them. While processing the prescription on one screen the other can dynamically display all the ordering and product information, or maybe the pricing details, or interaction information, or the contra indications, or even the on-line email etc. etc. The possibilities are endless.

Supported by Professor Peter Weedle (Adjunct Professor Pharmacy, Cork University), MPS provides Interaction warnings, Cautions, Indications, Contra Indications, Patient Information Leaflets, Dosage Information, Pregnancy, Male Potency & Paediatric Warnings.

Users of the MPS system may take advantage of regular electronic product file and ethical data updates.

It is worth mentioning that all the above is not of any use without the prime requirements of a dispensing system. MPS provides the entire complex PMR and dispensary management functions.
