12th March 2010 - 50cent prescription charge
McLernons release prescription charge programme McLernon Computers are pleased to announce that they have added additional functionality to the MPS programme to reflect the announcement of the 50 cent prescription charge in last November’s Budget, scheduled to come into effect on 1st April 2010. All of our customers with up-to-date service contracts who use broadband will find that this amendment will be automatically uploaded on the night of 31st March, simply allowing them to implement the programme at the start of the next day. Those who do not yet have broadband will receive the programme change by post in the usual fashion. As yet, the HSE has not published the legislation for the implementation of these changes, so we have had to make a number of assumptions about the introduction of the 50 cent charge, having consulted with community pharmacy representatives and our own customers. In the Budget reference was made to a maximum €10 charge for a family. The enabling legislation has not yet been published so the definition of ‘a family member’ is unclear at present and we do not know if the same rules will apply as for other schemes. In order to accommodate the possible need for a receipt the bag label will now show the appropriate total. We would suggest that MPS users advise their patients to retain these bag labels as proof of payment so that they may claim any overpayment from the HSE PCRS when the mechanics of the scheme have been made public.
