McLernon Computers, Ireland’s leading pharmacy software provider, has announced another first – live access directly at point of dispensing to MedicinesComplete. This online service, produced and updated by Pharmaceutical Press, provides access to the British National Formulary (BNF) and as well as other world-leading drug information resources.

As an enhancement of the drug interaction information already available to MPS customers, this new venture will also allow all MPS users with broadband to link to Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference,  Stockley's Drug Interactions, Herbal Medicines, Pharmaceutical Excipients, Dietary Supplements, and Clarke's Analysis of Drugs and Poisons.

As the dispenser enters the medication detailed on a script the appropriate reference in each of these publications is displayed on the screen at the same time.

The BNF is an essential reference providing up-to-date guidance on prescribing, dispensing and administering medicines. It details all medicines that are generally prescribed in the Republic of Ireland, with special reference to their uses, cautions, contra-indications, side-effects, dosage and relative costs.

As a platform, MedicinesComplete provides:
• More than 20,000 drug, poison, interaction and herbal monographs
• Information to support prescribing, dispensing and administering drugs and medicines
• Up-to-date guidance on disease treatments, disease management and therapeutics
• Information on analysing, formulating and preparing drugs, medicines, and many other pharmaceutical products
